Barış graduated from the Maritime Faculty of Istanbul Technical University in 1998 and worked on merchant vessels as an officer.

After spending 8 years in Istanbul as a surveyor and claims handler at Metropole Maritime, he moved to Hamburg in 2008 and worked as Senior Underwriter and Loss Prevention Manager for Hanseatic P&I / TMS for 12 years and as Senior Underwriter for Hydor AS for three years. He Joined Lockton P.L. Ferrari in 2023 as Insurance Manager in the Hamburg office.
